Tanjeneca Thompson’s journey with Goodwill embodies resilience and ambition. To enhance her strong customer service background, she joined the BRES Customer Service Training program, beginning on April 29, 2024, and completing it on June 26, 2024. With guidance from her career coach, LaTonya Burks, and encouragement from E-commerce supervisors Dani and Krystal, Tanjeneca applied for a Team Lead position — a step inspired by the support and belief others had in her abilities. Today, she continues to feel empowered in her new role by supervisors Ryan and Kathy.
Balancing a full-time E-commerce role at Goodwill and a part-time job as a Walmart Front-end Assistant, Tanjeneca’s dedication was unwavering. “Tanjeneca is a ROCKSTAR,” LaTonya shared, noting her exceptional work ethic, active participation, and drive to succeed. Tanjeneca entered every training session with enthusiasm, eager to grow and advance her career, making it clear she wasn’t just participating — she was striving to excel.
Now serving as a Retail Team Lead at Goodwill’s Muskegon-Apple Store while continuing her part-time Walmart position, Tanjeneca reflects on her transformation. “I like everything about my job. This is a brand new start,” she says, crediting Goodwill’s resume writing, interview prep, and cash handling training as vital tools for her success. Her ultimate goal? To one day manage her own store. Along the way, she remains committed to helping others by recommending Goodwill programs, emphasizing the importance of building essential retail skills for future employees.
Tanjeneca’s inspiring story highlights how determination, paired with Goodwill’s support, can lead to life-changing opportunities. “Thank you for your support in helping me decide my career path,” she says, a sentiment that underscores the power of Goodwill’s mission to transform lives through work.
