Work First Program

Work First
Work First Program

Work First is a curriculum-based program sponsored by Michigan Works! that provides career counseling, employability skills, and self-directed job search assistance to individuals who are transitioning from welfare to work. The program offers a supportive environment for participants seeking employment - with access to employment openings, phones, computers, transportation, and more.

Goodwill's career resource library, as well as Internet workstations to the Michigan Talent Bank and Michigan's Job Bank, are located at Goodwill's Workforce Development Center and made available to participants. Guided career exploration provides individuals access to information regarding the structure and requirements of specific occupations, as well as information regarding the local labor market, including the demand and availability of various occupations.

Program instructors also provide training in how to apply for a job, resume writing, cover letters, interviewing techniques, and job retention strategies.

This program may link individuals to other vocational training opportunities, and also offers post-placement support to ensure success in the workplace.
