Ticket to Work

Ticket to Work is a national initiative of the Social Security Administration (SSA) designed to give disability beneficiaries greater choice and opportunities to go to work. Goodwill's Workforce Development Center is a designated Employment Network (EN) authorized to assist ticket holders.

The centerpiece of new legislation signed by former President Clinton in December 1999, the Ticket to Work Program is a nationwide initiative designed to give disability beneficiaries the opportunity to achieve steady, long-term employment by providing them greater choice and opportunities to go to work. The SSA provides "tickets" to eligible beneficiaries in Michigan who may use them to obtain the services they need from an EN of their choice. The program is voluntary and beneficiaries have the option of contacting one or more ENs to discuss services and going to work. The EN and the ticket recipient work together to design an Individual Work Plan (IWP) outlining the services needed to enable the beneficiary to reach his or her employment goal.
