Overview

Every 57 seconds of every business day, someone gets a job — and comes closer to achieving personal and financial independence — thanks to Goodwill and you. The sales of your donations help fund Goodwill's job training programs and other career services that help people become successful at work.

Not all organizations that collect donations make the best use of them. Some thrift stores solicit donations under the name of a charity, but as little as 5 percent of the money generated from these donations may actually go to the charity. At Goodwill, approximately 90 percent of the revenue generated through retail store sales is used to fund our employment and training programs. Goodwill is consistently ranked among top charities that make your donations go further.

Goodwill donors may also choose to make a monetary donation. Regardless of how you contribute, we are grateful for your support.

Tax Deductions
If you itemize deductions on your federal tax return, you are entitled to claim a charitable deduction for your Goodwill donations.

Donation Receipt
Save time and fill out your receipt ahead of time. Take it, along with your donations, to the nearest Goodwill Donation Center and ask for the Goodwill attendant's signature.

Estimated Values Guide
Under U.S. tax law, the donor must determine the value of his/her material donations to Goodwill. The above guide can help you determine the “fair market value” of your donation.

NOTE: The U.S. Treasury Department recently passed The Pension Protection Act of 2006 whereby “no deduction is allowed for charitable contribution of clothing and household items if such items are not in good used condition or better.”
