There is now a free, easy, and environmentally responsible way to get rid of your old computer. Simply drop it off at any Goodwill store or donation center throughout the state of Michigan.
Goodwill Industries and Dell, Inc. are partners in RECONNECT, a statewide computer recycling and reuse program. Older, obsolete computers are taken apart (or “demanufactured”) by Goodwill workers. The parts are then sorted and recycled responsibly. Newer, working computers are refurbished and resold with the proceeds funneling back into workers’ wages.
Benefits of the program:
- free service to the community
- diverts significant toxic electronic waste from landfills
- provides jobs and paychecks to persons with disabilities or disadvantages
Other items such as printers, faxes, laptops and other peripherals are also accepted. Donations may be tax-deductible. Donors are responsible for removing data from their hard drives and other storage media before making their donation.
