Plans to open a new Goodwill Donation Center in the old El Camino Tacos restaurant location at 2818 Henry Street got moved up this week after Sunday's wind storm knocked over Goodwill's donation trailer at the old JC Penney parking lot. The trailer is permanently damaged.

To avoid further interruption to service, Goodwill plans to have the new Donation Center open by week's end; possibly sooner.

With the new Wal-Mart construction now well underway at the current trailer location, Goodwill already had plans in place to move into the old El Camino location later in the month. "We've just stepped things up and are trying to get the word out," said Director of Retail Operations James Cherney. "Signage is in the works and may not be ready by the time we open."

Open seven days at week, the Donation Center hours of operation will be: Monday through Saturday: 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Sunday: Noon-5:00 p.m.

Catering to the donor convenience, Goodwill has maintained a presence in the Roosevelt Park / Norton Shores area on Henry Street. The El Camino site is temporary. Goodwill officials estimate they will operate the center through the summer of 2006. Goodwill is currently pursuing a permanent, more convenient, location in the area.

As always, donors may also take their donations to any Goodwill store location. A donation drive-thru is located at Goodwill's store at 1974 Sherman Blvd. in Muskegon and at 1484 Ellis Road (near Hobby Lobby) in Norton Shores. Other store locations include: Grand Haven, Whitehall, Fremont, Holland, Ludington, and Newaygo. Call (231) 722-7871 for a location nearest you.
