NewsRoomPress Releases January 19, 2007 Goodwill Industries of West Michigan recently received a $5,000 grant from the Paul C. Johnson Foundation, of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County, to support Goodwill’s Transitional Housing and Employment Services Program for homeless families in Muskegon. In November 2005, Goodwill Industries of West Michigan expanded its services to include transitional housing for homeless families. Utilizing two homes Goodwill owns adjacent to its headquarter campus on Apple Avenue, Goodwill Industries provides housing opportunities for homeless families, with a focus on assisting these families in making a successful transition into steady employment and stable housing. Since the program’s inception, the program has assisted six families (including 13 children) in leading more independent lives. “We thank the Paul C. Johnson Foundation for their generous support of this critical program,” said Goodwill President Richard Carlson. The program is also supported by the United Way of the Lakeshore and the Community Foundation for Muskegon County. Goodwill offers a wide range of programs and services all with the common theme of helping people overcome barriers to employment. Ninety percent of the revenue generated from the sale of donated goods is channeled back into Goodwill’s job training and placement programs. In 2006 alone, GIWM provided employment services to 6,388 people in West Michigan. |
