Free Tax Return Preparation Now Available
You may qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) refund and free tax return filing! EITC provides tax breaks to working people who earn low or moderate incomes, providing as much as $5,657 in refunds for some families. This can be the financial boost families need in these tough economic times.
Goodwill has once again partnered with Volunteer Muskegon, Community enCompass, and other nonprofits to provide a wide selection of dates and locations for the free service. Appointments are coordinated by Volunteer Muskegon and may be scheduled by calling 231-722-6600, ext. 13. Referral phone service 2-1-1 can confirm eligibility for EITC and other tax credits, and provide referral information.
“We hope workers will take advantage of the free tax preparation services Goodwill offers,” said Workforce Development Director Thomas Griffin. “The IRS estimates that nearly 20 to 25 percent of eligible families still don’t claim the credit, and we need to make sure that working families get back every dollar for which they are eligible to help cover transportation costs, education, and food, and to save for long-term items such as housing, education and other family expenses.”
